Okavango Delta: Botswana’s Vast Inland Wetland and Wildlife Haven in the Kalahari Basin

The Okavango Delta is a vast inland delta located in northwestern Botswana, where the Okavango River spreads out and empties into the Kalahari Basin instead of reaching the sea. Covering roughly 15,000–20,000 km² depending on seasonal flooding, it is one of the largest and most intact wetland ecosystems in the world. The delta forms a complex landscape of channels, lagoons, floodplains, and islands, supporting exceptional biodiversity and large populations of wildlife.
